The Whippet

The Whippet – An Authoritative Look at the Breed’s Past, Present and Future, by Bo Bengtson (Kennel Club Classics, USA), 2010.

After a long wait this new, revised and enlarged edition is now available. It’s a large format, 350-page hardcover volume with approx. 300 illustrations, easily the most comprehensive book ever published on the breed.

Lisa Costello, DVM MS has written the new health chapter and, together with Gay Robertson (UK), contributed largely to the in-depth “working Whippets” chapter. The book costs $39.50 and can be ordered from and at most bookstores.

“This new book is truly an amazing piece of literature … I can’t believe that any other breed of dog could possibly have a publication that could match The Whippet.” — Cindy Scott, American Whippet Club national specialty show chairman, judge & breeder

From Dog World (UK), July 15, 2011: “I have at last managed to get a copy of Bo Bengtson’s latest edition of The Whippet, a complete update of the book of the same name that was published in 1985. This is a very lavish publication … There is an immense amount of new material here covering the Whippet all over the world. The photographs are superb and there are chapters on coursing, written by Gay Robertson, lure coursing and racing as well as showing. There is also a comprehensive chapter on health by Lisa Costello. This is not only a stunning book to look at, but a very detailed and interesting one.” — Joanna Russell, Whippet breed notes.
