Bohem is one of the worlds best
known and most successful Whippet kennels. It was established
over 40 years ago and is responsible for a long line of world-class
winners. It has always been an extremely small operation. Visitors
often expect a range of brood bitches and well-filled puppy runs,
but the "kennel" consists of only a few dogs (including
several grey-faced veterans), possibly a puppy or two, and sometimes
a visitor staying for a few shows.
Throughout the years, Bohem has remained
committed to the same ideal: a happy, healthy Whippet whose classic
beauty derives from the long, curvy lines, the strong, well angulated
quarters and the smooth, low, powerful movement. Glamorous colors,
attractive heads and showmanship are a bonus.
Bohem has bred an average of barely
one litter per year and relies on a high percentage of memorable
winners for its success. Showing and breeding is strictly a hobby
and always has to take a back seat to other dog activities: judging,
club work, research, writing and publishing. Because of limited
opportunities to campaign the Bohem dogs, quality youngsters
are sometimes available to exhibitors who are able to do them
justice. Even when there are no puppies available at Bohem, every
effort will be made to help a dedicated fancier find a suitable
puppy.
Although not participating in organized
racing or coursing in recent years, many Bohem bred Whippets
in other ownerships have earned field titles of various kinds.
