MAY 2008 UPDATES

SBIS Ch. Maverick Griffin of Bohem
Weve had a very successful
spring, in spite of hardly attending any shows. Ch. Bohem
Some Like It Hot (Satine) is among the top Whippets in the
country, thanks to co-owner Cindi Gredys, taking several more
big Breeds and Group placements. Ch. Maverick Griffin of Bohem
finished in style by getting his second specialty major under
breeder judge David Samuelson at the So. Cal. Whippet Association,
handled by co-owner Michael Strockbine to WD and by breeder Rachel
Amado to BOB and SBIS. And at the AWC National Specialty in Oregon
our old Ch. Bohem
All About Eve (granddam of both
Satine and Griffin) won a National Specialty Select at nearly
12 years of age under judge Cindy Scott. There was a specials
class with 94 champions entered.
There are barely any Bohem dogs
left in the classes, but Bohem Bonhomme (Tommy) won a
5-point major and should finish soon: he has not been shown a
lot but has two Breeds and a BOS from the classes and is one
of the only two puppies in Ch.
Bohem Cest la Vies
only litter. (The other one, Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant, has already
sired a couple of young champions.)
Were also pleased with
the young offspring of our beloved late Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus (Chili). In addition to Griffin, Ch. Arwen Glitter
Fantasy finished quickly (with three 5-point majors!) and her
brother Arwen Glitter Galaxy of Chelsea has two specialty weekend
majors. We look forward to their sister Arwen Glitterati of Bohem
visiting during the summer and to showing her in California.
None of these are even close to two years old yet. Chilis
adult son Ch. Counterpoint Jungle Drums is turning into a top
class stud dog with young winners in both the U.S. and Canada.
There has not been a Bohem litter
for nearly four years, but we hope that Satine will be bred by
A.I. to Ch. Wolf Tone Viking (Ch. Bohem Flight Time x
Signum Soprani) in Sweden this summer. We are looking forward
very much to this litter!
FEBRUARY/MARCH 2008 UPDATES
2007 was a mixed year. Our wonderful
SBIS Ch. Bohem Three
Ring Circus ("Chili")
suffered a serious accident while out playing in early February
and was left immobilized, requiring intensive care and a long
recuperation, involving acupuncture and other treatment. He improved
steadily for several months to the point where he could walk
on his own, but after a second incident during late summer he
started being in pain. All possible kinds of therapy were tried
in the hope that something would help, but to save him from suffering
he was finally put down in early October. He was not quite 9
years old and one of the greatest characters ever. We miss him
a lot.
To allow Chili to convalesce
in quiet we placed the puppies, so the "kennel" at
home currently consists only of Chili's dam, SBIS Ch. Bohem All About Eve,
who is in wonderful form and as fit as ever. She will be 12 years
old this spring. We may show her a couple of times as a veteran
again.

Chilli and Annie
Of the puppies, Chili's son
Maverick Griffin of Bohem (x Merci Isle Maverick Bandana
JC) went to Barbara Wayne and won most of his points before 12
months of age, including an American Whippet Club specialty major
under breed specialist judge Dr. John Shelton. Griffin needs
just a 3-point major to finish and lives with his new owners
Michael Strockbine and Reed Hellyer in Palm Springs. He was bred
by Rachel Amado & Henry Heil and is co-owned by Bohem and
Erika Tonder.

Maverick Griffin of Bohem
Our black beauty, Flying
Mistral JC, whom we got from her breeder, our neighbor Lee
Anne Norris, is co-owned with her and Tina Graham by Bohem. Misty
has only been shown a few times in conformation while maturing
but won well during specialty weekends. She is close to her field
title and in spite of her youth ended 2007 in the Top 20 AKC
Lure Coursing.

Flying Mistral JC
There have been no Bohem litters
for over three years, but one of the two youngest whippets bred
by Bohem, Ch. Bohem
Bon Vivant, has taken AWC specialty
Select as well as a lot of Breeds and Group placements; he is
also proving an excellent sire, with his first sons from two
different litters finishing their titles. His only littermate
(the only two puppies born out of the great but ill-fated BIS & SBIS Ch. Bohem C'est
la Vie) is Bohem Bonhomme,
who has won Best of Breed over specials competition and is getting
close to his championship.

Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant
A new youngster, Ch. Bohem
Some Like It Hot, finished her title with several Breeds
and Group placements from the classes in the past year and ended
up qualifying for AWC's 2008 Top 20 competition. She made her
debut as a special during the big AWC specialty weekend in California,
going BOB over 99 Whippets and making the cut in one of the year's
biggest Hound Groups. She also won back-to-back Breeds at the
big Del Valle specialty weekend and again made the cut in the
huge Hound Groups both days. Satine was a gift from her breeders,
George & Connie Boulton, out of their lovely Ch. Bohem
Ooh-La-La (a sister to "Vivi") and sired by SBIS
Ch. Cove Creek's Pride and Joy. We are pleased to co-own
Satine with Cindi Gredys and look forward to seeing how she matures.
(She won back-to-back big Breeds at her only shows so far in
2008, handled by Cindi's junior handler daughter Amelia.)

Ch. Bohem Some Like It Hot
We were also pleased to get
a stud fee puppy by Chili out of the lovely Ch. Chelsea Supernatural
Odyssey JC, Arwen Glitter Galaxy of Bohem, bred by Lisande
Donohoe & Deann Christianson. Since we can't keep "Dazzle"
at home she is co-owned and lives with Paula Knight of Templar
Whippets. First weekend out, owner-handled by Paula, Dazzle won
a major, BOW and BOS over a special from the 6-9 mo. Puppy class!
Several of the littermates have also won points, including one
with back-to-back 5-point majors from the 6-9 mo. puppy class.

Arwen Glitter Galaxy of Bohem
Although they are conservatively
used, Bohem-bred stud dogs have sired some beautiful puppies.
Chili's litter brothers, Ch.
Bohem Circus Runaway ("Blaze"),
BIS Ch. Bohem Circus
Pony ("Whispa") are both
top sires, with Blaze qualifying for the AWC Register of Merit,
and Whispa who lives in Japan has sired approx. 20 champions
in the US and Asia. Their younger half brothers Ch. Bohem Time Flies (in Belgium) and Ch. Bohem Just in Time
have promising puppies on the way, as does Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant.
Just in Time (Justin) was not used at stud until last year but
now has four good-looking litters on the ground.

Ch Bohem Just in Time
Although we don't have any dogs
at stud at Bohem we will be happy to put anyone interested in
touch with the owners of the above dogs.
Whether there will be any more
Bohem puppies in the future is uncertain, but there may be a
co-bred litter in 2008 if all goes well.
P.S.
Congratulations to Satine on yet another big Breed win
over six Specials and Group 3rd in some of the countrys
top Hound competition in Denver on Feb. 15, and to Chilis
daughter Ch. Arwen Glitter Fantasy (x Ch. Chelsea Supernatural
Odyssey), owned by Lisande Donoho.

Jee-Bee's Crystal de Bohème
Congratulations to Timmys
daughter Jee-Bees Crystal de Bohème, Best
Puppy in Show at the Luxembourg international show in March.
She was 7 months old, by Ch. Bohem Time Flies
x Jee-Bee's Royal Victory (Ch. Lorricbrook Bandleader x Multi
Ch. Highland Hill Mary Legacy), bred & owned by Claudine
Pfister in France.
